The Illinois Tech Student Impact Line is a paid, pre-professional opportunity for students who want to make a real difference. As a student caller, you’ll build communication and leadership skills while connecting with alumni, sharing the student experience, and supporting the university’s mission.

We are hiring for the 2026–2027 academic year.

→ Eligibility: Federal Work Study (FWS) required

Position Details

  • Pay: $16.60 per hour
  • Hours: 10–15 hours per week
  • Schedule: Monday–Thursday between 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Format: Hybrid (in-person and remote depending on campaign)
  • Length: September through May
    • Includes breaks for Thanksgiving (1 week), Winter Break (3 weeks), and Spring Break (1 week)
  • Open positions: Approximately 10 students hired each year

All student employees must reapply each academic year.

What You’ll Do 

As a Student Impact Line team member, you will:

  • Call Illinois Tech alumni and supporters to share updates and build connections
  • Encourage giving and participation in campaigns like Giving Day and crowdfunding initiatives
  • Thank donors through stewardship calls and messages
  • Represent the student experience and share your perspective
  • Use professional tools like Guided Fundraising (calling platform) and Microsoft Teams for scheduling and communication

What a Typical Shift Looks Like

  • Log into Microsoft Teams and your calling platform
  • Review your call list, script, and goals for the shift
  • Make outbound calls to alumni and friends of the university
  • Have real conversations—sharing your experience and hearing theirs
  • Receive support and coaching from supervisors throughout the shift
  • Track your progress and celebrate team wins

You’ll work both independently and as part of a supportive team environment.

Training & Support

All training is paid and designed to set you up for success.

  • Training week: September 14, 2026 (virtual sessions)
  • Includes: one required in-person meet-and-greet
  • Topics covered:
    • Communication and phone skills
    • Fundraising fundamentals
    • Stewardship and donor engagement
    • Using calling and scheduling systems

Ongoing coaching and feedback are provided throughout the semester.

Do I need prior experience?
No. We provide training—what matters most is your willingness to learn and communicate.

What if I’m nervous about calling?
That’s completely normal. We provide coaching, scripts, and support to help you feel confident.

Is the schedule flexible?
Yes. You’ll select shifts that work around your class schedule.

Is this fully remote?
No—this is a hybrid role. Some campaigns and training elements require in-person participation.
